Cofundr x Mualamat Invest: Enabling Purposeful and Shariah-compliant Financing for Malaysia’s MSMEs

Cofundr has formalised a collaboration with Muamalat Invest Sdn Bhd (MISB) on 16th October 2025 to widen access to Shariah-compliant, fixed-income opportunities while connecting purposeful capital to Malaysia’s real-economy MSMEs. In practical terms, the partnership allows the MiDAS Fund to participate in eligible Islamic Investment Notes listed on Cofundr’s peer-to-peer (P2P) platform, giving investors exposure to curated SME financing while giving SMEs an alternative pathway to funding beyond traditional banking.

Public statements about MiDAS describe it as a channel to unlock Islamic wealth for underserved sectors, mobilising private capital to real-sector enterprises and enabling investors to “succeed with purpose.” This strongly echoes Cofundr’s focus on supporting purposeful businesses and impact-led growth.

How it aligns with Malaysia’s capital market agenda

This collaboration sits squarely within the national direction set by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC):

  • Capital Market Masterplan 3 (CMP3) calls for a capital market that is more relevant, efficient and diversified, enabling broader participation in the nation’s sustainable growth. Partnerships that connect Islamic investors to productive, real-sector MSME financing directly advance this aim.
  • The MSME & MTC Roadmap (2024–2028) seeks to position the capital market as a key financing source for micro, small and medium enterprises and mid-tier companies with targets to expand MSME fundraising by 2028.

By channeling Shariah-compliant funds into digital financing notes, Cofundr x MiDAS helps operationalize these strategies: more inclusive investment access for the public and more non-bank capital available to MSMEs.

How Cofundr plays our part

As a licensed Recognised Market Operator (RMO), Cofundr act as MISB’s platform partner facilitating MiDAS Fund’s participation in eligible Shariah-compliant Islamic Investment Notes. Through this partnership, Cofundr provides MISB access to curated SME financing opportunities on its platform, further strengthening the Islamic alternative-financing ecosystem.

The road ahead

As the MiDAS x Cofundr collaboration scales, we expect to see more MSMEs funded, more investors participating in Shariah-compliant instruments and stronger alignment with SC’s national policy vision for a diversified, inclusive capital market.

We thank Bank Muamalat and Muamalat Invest Sdn Bhd for their trust and partnership and we look forward to driving more meaningful collaboration in strengthening Malaysia’s Islamic-fintech ecosystem!
